How to Change the Audio Output on Zoom App?

Published in Zoom Audio Settings 2 mins read

To change your audio output device in the Zoom app while you are in a meeting, you need to access the audio settings directly from the meeting controls. This is useful if you want to switch from your computer speakers to headphones, or vice versa, during a call.

Changing Audio Output During a Zoom Meeting

The most common way to adjust your audio output on the fly during a Zoom meeting is through the meeting toolbar.

Here are the steps you can follow:

  1. Locate the Microphone Icon: In the Zoom meeting toolbar, find the Microphone icon, typically located in the bottom-left corner. It's the icon you use to mute or unmute yourself.
  2. Click the Up Arrow: Click on the up arrow situated right next to the Microphone icon in the meeting toolbar. This arrow indicates additional audio options are available.
  3. Access the Audio Menu: A menu will immediately appear. This menu contains various audio settings, including options for both your microphone (audio input) and your speakers or headphones (audio output).
  4. Select Your Output Device: Under the "Select a Speaker" or similar heading within this menu, you will see a list of available audio output devices connected to your computer (like your built-in speakers, external speakers, headphones, etc.). Click on the device you wish to use for hearing the meeting audio.
  5. Confirm the Change: Zoom will instantly switch the audio output to the selected device. You should now hear the meeting audio through your newly chosen speakers or headphones.

Why Change Your Audio Output?

  • Switching Devices: You might need to switch from speakers to headphones for privacy or to reduce echo.
  • Troubleshooting: If you can't hear anyone, selecting the correct output device is a common first step in troubleshooting.
  • Using External Devices: Connecting a new audio device like a USB headset might require you to manually select it in Zoom.

Changing your audio output is a quick process during a meeting and ensures you are using the best audio device for your current situation.
