How to Edit Your Zoom Meeting Link (Including Personal Meeting ID Link)

Published in Zoom Meeting Settings 3 mins read

Editing a Zoom meeting link primarily refers to customizing your Personal Meeting ID (PMI) link. Links for scheduled meetings are typically randomly generated and cannot be changed in the same way.

Editing Your Personal Meeting ID (PMI) Link

Your Personal Meeting ID (PMI) is like your permanent meeting room, and you can customize the link that leads to it. This is often preferred for recurring meetings or for people you meet with regularly.

Here are the steps to customize your Zoom Personal Meeting ID link:

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal. Go to the official Zoom website and log in with your account credentials.
  2. Click Profile. This option is usually found in the navigation menu on the left side of the page.
  3. To the right of Personal Link, select Customize. Scroll down the Profile page until you find the "Personal Link" section. You'll see an option to customize it there.
  4. Enter the ID or personal link desired. You can choose a custom string of characters for your link, typically following a format like https://zoom.us/my/yournameorcustomtext. Choose something easy to remember.
  5. Click Save Changes. After entering your desired link, click the save button to apply the changes.

Note: Customizing your Personal Link is usually available to licensed Zoom accounts. The custom part must be between 5 and 40 characters long and cannot contain spaces or certain special characters.

Understanding Scheduled Meeting Links

Unlike your PMI link, the link generated for a specific scheduled meeting is typically a unique, often random, identifier. You cannot edit or customize this randomized string of characters within the link itself after the meeting is scheduled.

However, you can edit the settings of a scheduled meeting, even after sending out the link. When participants join the meeting via the link, they will access the meeting with the updated settings.

Editable settings for a scheduled meeting include:

  • Meeting Topic
  • Date and Time
  • Duration
  • Passcode requirements
  • Waiting Room settings
  • Enabled/Disabled features like screen sharing, chat, etc.

To edit the settings of a scheduled meeting:

  1. Go to the Meetings section in the Zoom web portal or desktop client.
  2. Find the scheduled meeting you want to modify.
  3. Click the Edit button for that meeting.
  4. Make your desired changes to the meeting options.
  5. Save the meeting.

Participants using the original link will automatically join the meeting with the updated configuration.

Personal Meeting ID vs. Scheduled Meeting Link

Here's a quick comparison:

Feature Personal Meeting ID (PMI) Link Scheduled Meeting Link
Link Structure Customizable (e.g., zoom.us/my/yourname) Randomly generated (e.g., zoom.us/j/1234567890)
Edit/Customize Link Yes (via Profile settings) No (the identifier is fixed)
Meeting Purpose Permanent, personal meeting room Specific, time-bound event
Editing Settings Yes (via Profile or Meetings) Yes (via Meetings)

In summary, you can personalize your Personal Meeting ID link through your profile settings, but links for scheduled meetings cannot have their unique identifier changed, although their settings are fully editable.
